The Seattle chapter of Sea Shepherd Conversation Society was established in April 2011 on the heels of the very first Cove Guardian campaign (2010-2011) and was re-started in January 2016. It made perfect sense to have a chapter in the Pacific Northwest, an area known for its rugged mountains, lush rain forests, abundance of water and incredible diversity of wildlife. Our close proximity to Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea means we live next door to all kinds of marine wildlife including whales, dolphins, porpoises, salmon, sea lions and a multitude of other species, several of which are critically endangered. This puts our chapter in a unique position to be directly involved in the defense, conservation and stewardship of marine ecosystems and wildlife right in our own backyard.
The Seattle Chapter Onshore Volunteers participate in outreach activities throughout the Puget Sound area, tabling events, fundraising and drawing attention to the issues that matter most to us, both as residents of the PNW and as members of SSCS. We can often be found at dive expos, local festivals, and concerts. We organize film screenings, attend environmental lectures and do beach cleanups and some of our veteran crew members speak at local club meetings and school groups.
If you are interested in becoming a voice for the oceans and have the time to devote to volunteering, we would love to speak to you about how you can get involved! Please contact us at [email protected]
